Our Story

With headquarters in the Capital Region and experienced professionals across the country, Smart Lending was founded by a group of residential development and finance entrepreneurs with over $1.5 billion in completed residential real estate development projects. We are a vertically integrated direct private lender with experience and expertise in all tiers of the residential real estate space to include valuation, development, construction, asset management, disposition, loan origination & servicing, and loss mitigation.

Our internal direct lending funds, allow us to be in control of the lending process and gives us the capabilities to get creative and to be smart.

Carlos Reyes is the founder and Managing Partner for Smart Lending and Carstensz Capital Partners, LLC (the Manager for Carstensz Fund I, LLC). Carlos is a real estate developer himself and has performed over $1.5 billion dollars of real estate development in the Washington, D.C. Region during the past 18 years. Carlos brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to the fund. His experience is invaluable in vetting potential transactions as he knows most developers in the area and whether or not they are trustworthy and qualified. Carlos also owns numerous real estate verticals, including construction assets which would all be helpful in mitigating a loan default.

Gregory J. Zambrella

Greg Zambrella has over a decade of broad real estate finance & investment experience based out of New York City. Most recently, he was in charge of operations, and originating & underwriting bridge loans, for a NYC based private equity firm. Prior to that, Greg was part of a national multifamily origination team at Guggenheim Partners, where he underwrote & facilitated CRE transactions through Fannie / Freddie / HUD programs. Greg began his career as an Asset Manager overseeing more than 140 assets and 8000 units for a leading affordable housing tax credit developer in CT. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in the origination of over $2 Billion of CRE transactions. Greg received a B.S. from the University of Scranton and is a member of multiple real estate clubs.

Mo Noorali

Mo Noorali brings over 17 years of experience across capital markets, sales, trading and banking expertise with a focus in mortgage and other asset backed transactions in both primary and secondary markets. Mo began his career in the Structured Products Group at Bank of America, followed by a similar role at Nomura Securities, both in New York. He subsequently joined a team to build and launch a Non-Agency Mortgage sales and trading desk at GFI Group. Mo has also helped build a registered mortgage and asset backed trading broker-dealer from the ground up and understands the intricacies of operating a start-up finance operation in a regulated industry. Most recently, Mo is a Managing Director at a niche mortgage broker-dealer where he facilitates fixed income transactions ranging from Non-Agency Mortgages to Auto Loans, Student Loans, Commercial and other Asset Backed Securities with Wall Street Banks, Money Managers, Hedge Funds and other Institutional Investors. Mo graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration with focuses in Finance and Marketing from Goizueta Business School at Emory University and currently holds series 7, 24 and 63 licenses.

He has considerable experience investing in and managing fix and flips.

Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge around loss mitigation and his experience is invaluable in helping mitigate risk while underwriting transactions. If ever necessary, Andrew’s knowledge would be critical while managing a default.

During her time in public accounting, she performed various corporate audits, 401(k) audits as well as corporate, partnership and individual tax return preparation and bookkeeping services. She is a licensed CPA and is dedicated to her career. She is also a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs and is actively completing continuing education. Megan provides the accounting, auditing and additional financial controls needed to support the team.
